Awards For All
Awards for all gave us a grant for £4,035 in March 2006.
We successfully established a junior training programme in our area. The money enabled us to provide a suitable venue for regular sessions. A variety of coaching aids and equipment was purchased to suit the various age ranges and abilities of the children.
We have seen 60 plus children through our training sessions. We have had many different nationalities and also four disabled youngsters. We have introduced the juniors in to team competitions with the benefits of learning how to score and referee. We have trebled our junior membership. Our coaches have upgraded and attended further coaching courses.
The award has set the ball rolling for future development. Newbury Volleyball Club is the only Volley 2 accredited club in the country. For our next phase, we want to establish school links and engage more children into the sport. We will also be developing sitting volleyball to cater for children with special needs.
Many Thanks for your help.

Local Network Grant
We were awarded a grant of £7,000 by the Local Network Fund for Children and Young people in May 2007. We applied for the grant to develop our junior section by further coaching and introducing competitions to engage more children into volleyball.
We have used the money to provide regular fun training sessions. We purchased some new equipment including a long net, which covers the whole length of a sports hall together with three supporting telescopic stands. This allowed us to train more players at the net and provided us enough courts for catch and throw mini competitions.
The children have taken part in lots of competitions from Beach Volleyball in Sandbanks, Grand Prix in Melksham and through the Volleyball England talent programme under 14’s upwards. Every child in the club has had the opportunity to take part in the competitions as each one is geared to a different age group and standard.
We have involved many volunteers and parents throughout this project. We have several coaches who come in and provide a varied selection of drills and skills to the players some specialising in certain aspects of the game. These coaches and volunteers have been able to attend further education courses to improve the standards.
The children have learned how to referee and score through the competitions and plans are underway to put some of the older ones onto the level 1 coaching course.
We have set up a junior section to our website with up to date news and reports. We are linking with local schools and providing teaching programmes which schools can access to promote volleyball.
Sadly the grant finishes at the end of January. It would be excellent if we could secure another grant to help contribute to the running costs of this valuable sport. |
